Columbia Central Cleans Up The Star
Students Step Up!
We want to give a huge thank you to the students from the Columbia Central High School Leadership Development class who recently spent time serving at The Star Theatre in downtown Brooklyn.
These students worked incredibly hard and made meaningful progress toward the future restoration and revitalization plans for The Star Theatre. Throughout the day, the group helped clean, organize, and remove years of accumulated debris — even filling an entire dumpster full of waste.
Projects like this are a reminder that community restoration happens when people are willing to step up and serve together. We are so grateful for the time, energy, and effort these students invested into helping preserve and restore this important local landmark.

History of the Star
The Star Theater, a charming beacon of entertainment in its time, first opened its doors to the public on October 7, 1937. Initially, it welcomed guests with an intimate seating capacity of 200, offering a cozy and nostalgic movie-going experience. Over the years, its popularity grew, and by 1950, the theater had expanded to accommodate 463 patrons, solidifying its place as a vibrant hub for cinema lovers. After nearly five decades of delighting audiences with countless films, the curtains fell for the final time in 1986, marking the end of an era for this beloved local gem.
